Showing your picture to the world

OK, there are several ways to do this, and they all involve getting the photo off your hard drive and 'onto the internet'.

Flickr

To use Flickr, first you need to Sign up or Sign in and from there the process of showing your pictures to the world couldn't be easier.

Uploading

  1. Head to http://www.flickr.com/ (if you're not already there) and find the Upload link.
  2. Once you've clicked the Upload link you'll find space to upload six photos (but don't worry, you can upload plenty more).
  3. Click the browse button and find the photo you want to upload. Repeat as required.
  4. If all the photos relate to one subject you can choose some tags1) then click the Upload button.
  5. After your photos are uploaded you can add titles, descriptions and more tags. Save your changes and it's done.

Adding to the Scribblygum Pool

FIXME!

After you've uploaded them, you might want to add them to the Scribblygum Pool. To post your images to the forum just view the image in Flickr and copy and paste the URL in the address bar into your post.

Imageshack

The quickest and easiest way is to use an image hosting site. One of the easiest to use is http://imageshack.us/. Note that these are funded by advertising, and you could get into a bit of bother if you start clicking things at random.

All you do is click on the |Choose| button and select the file you want to upload to the net.

You have a couple of options, the most useful of which is the resize option. If the photo is straight out of your camera, it is probably a large file and will need to be resized for ease of download by others. Check the checkbox and decide the best size for your image.the option of '17” Monitor' is a good compromise between size and quality.

Then hit the |Host it!| button and wait for the image to be uploaded.

Congratulations, your image is now out there for anyone to see.

Now you have to find out how to tell people where it is. You are given quite a few options as to fancy HTML addresses and stuff. Scroll down to the second last option that is labeled “Show image to my friends”. Hilight all the text in the box, then paste that into the forum.

That is all you need to know.

One problem with this method of hosting is that you now have no control over the image. It is up there on the internet forever, you cannot remove it.

We will go into better ways of hosting your images later, but this will do for now.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Used by many scribblers to share their photos, it's pretty easy to use.

1) Tagging is a simple way to organise your photos on Flickr so they are easy to sort and retrieve. There are no rules, just use what ever words you find useful.
