What does "bump" mean?

From time to time you might see a post in Scribblygum containing little other than the word “bump”. These posts are made to bring the thread to the attention of people that may otherwise have missed it. If a question is asked when no-one who knows the answer is online then many other threads are started, the question may be buried far back in the thread-history by the time someone who can answer it arrives, so they may miss it completely. A little “bump” post brings the thread to the top of the “View By Time” list so that whoever is around will notice it.

Care to see what wikipedia says a bump is all about? :)

While wikipedia states that use of the “bump” is often considered a breach of etiquette, it is quite the opposite in Scribblygum. On a busy day, posts by unregistered newcomers would be entirely lost in the “View by time” if not generously bumped by someone who has scrolled back and unearthed them.

There is thread dedicated to the joys of “bump” starting here.
