Announcements

17 January 2006

I made a slight change to the configuration and I didn’t anticipate all the effects it would have. As a result we now have a few broken links scattered throughout the wiki, so if you see a link in red that you know should be in green, please take the time to fix it.

Basically, the change is that anything linked like so:

Some wiki page

will now relate to the page some_wiki_page whereas it used to relate to the page somewikipage.

I made this change for one reason only, it forces people who don’t know what they’re doing properly yet to separate the words when they name pages. This has advantages for a number of reasons, but primarily, it will allow search engines to index the wiki in a much better way.

There is NO need to re-create the page. You should simply change the links.

The way to fix links that have been broken because of this page is to change this:

Some wiki page

To this:

Some wiki page

Sorry for creating more work (which I’ll help with), but it will be better this way in the long run.

This page is locked for editing by general users and will be used to make announcements regarding the wiki. If there is anything I think is particularly important I will also add a temporary notice (like the current one) to the front page (until there is a better system). And maybe, if I think it’s really, really, important I’ll post about it on Scribblygum.

If you’d like to keep on top of the announcements so you know whenever a new one is made I suggest you subscribe to the RSS feed for this namespace. If you’d like to know more about RSS feeds there is a good summary here. My prefered feed reader is Bloglines.

But the real purpose for this announcement is the discussion feature I have just added. Maybe you have noticed the new “Discuss” button at the top of each page. I hope this is a useful feature. I’d be pleased to hear any feedback. Just email me.

Happy wiki building,

S.
